In pet food industry, extrusion is a process that has been used for over 50 years. About 95 percent of dry pet diets are manufactured using the extrusion process. Batches of dog or cat food ingredients are mixed, sheared and heated under high pressure, forced through a spiral shaped screw and then through the die of the extruder machine. There are two types of extruders, wet type feed pellets extruder and dry type feed pellets extruder which the extruder is the result -- a wet feed product and dry product.

Wet type feed extruder and dry type extruder. There are three differences and features: Firstly dry type feed extruder does not need the steam boiler while the wet type is with the conditioner and need to equip the steam boiler. So the dry type fish feed pellet machine is cheaper and easier to use and operate. Secondly the feed pellet made by wet type feed pellet machine is more smooth and with better quality because the material is ripen and mixed enough in the conditioner compared with the dry type extruder. And last, the capacity of the wet type feed pellet machine is higher than the dry type feed pellet machine, so usually the wet type feed machine is suitable for large feed pellet factory while the dry type feed pellet machine is better and economic for the small and medium size user or factory.
